Saturday Morning Shakeout with HETTAS
Location: 8am, Second Beach Stanley Park
Same 5km, but with a Little Extra..
Last weekend, our Hummingbird run club had the exciting opportunity to test out HETTAS running shoes during a special demo day event. Our female attendees of all levels gathered to put these women-specific runners to the test over a 5km run, ask questions, and share their experiences.
How HETTAS Are Paving The Way
HETTAS do things a little differently. How so? The HETTAS team walked us through the tech behind their shoe line and explained why having a running shoe based on women-specific data is extremely important. The main points were:
Lower Heel Cup: Reduces rubbing on women's ankle bones and holds the heel in place without putting pressure on the Achilles.
Rounded Instep: Creates a snug fit through the middle to match the curvature of a woman’s foot.
Women-First Research Approach: Applies science specifically from a women’s perspective, rather than an all-gender shoe range.
The Test Run
What better way to see a runner in action than by getting straight into an easy 5km canter? We started out with an elite warm-up led by HETTAS team member and Canadian distance record holder Rachel Cliff.
With everyone decked out in HETTAS, we got the run in motion. During the course of the 5km, we asked the Hummingbird runners what they thought of the shoes and how they felt:
"It feels like the shoe is completely shaped around my foot."
"My heel immediately feels secure and I don't get a sense that my heel is rubbing against the back of the shoe."
"Extremely responsive, I love this feeling."
Overall, our patrons loved the feel of the shoe, with a consensus that the shoe definitely seemed more "Custom fitted" than what they usually encounter.
The tailor fit to a woman's foot is also incorporated into three iterations:
Alma Cruise: Daily trainer, for all things run- and walk-related with a more cushioned feel underfoot.
Alma Tempo: Running pace-focused, a bit firmer, great for adding tempo and pace to your runs.
Alma Speed: A race-focused shoe, aimed at being firm, responsive, and really putting a pep in your step.
Q&A, Coffee, and Treats
With everyone cooling off from the morning run, we gathered around to chat some more about how the shoes performed. We asked questions fresh off the press and learned a little more about how the shoes compare to their mainstream counterparts. After the Q&A, as per usual, there was some much-needed coffee and treats to replenish all those calories burned!
See You Again Soon!
The aim of today was to push the needle when it comes to women's running shoes and showcase how HETTAS offers comfort, durability, and performance.
We resoundingly encourage everyone to try out Hettas running shoes and experience the difference for themselves. Stay tuned for future events and demo days with our run club, and feel free to share your own experiences with us!
