Chris Cartwright’s journey into triathlon started with a simple goal—training for a marathon. After a strong debut, he ramped up the intensity, only to face injury. To stay active, he took up biking and swimming and soon found himself signing up for his first 70.3 in Whistler in 2019. Now, he’s chasing an 8:30 finish at Ironman Texas and an age group win at a 70.3.
His approach? “Training consistently is key! A short run is better than no run.” With a packed season ahead, including Ironman Texas, T100 Vancouver, and 70.3 Washington, Chris balances training with beach volleyball, skiing, and backcountry camping—always finding time to explore, unplug, and recharge for the next challenge.
Top placements
2023 Ironman California: 5th overall. (8:26:39)
2023 Ironman 70.3 Oregon: 2nd overall
2022 Ironman 70.3 Washington: 2nd overall

Advice for beginner triathletes:
“Training consistently is key! Don't stress about missing a workout, a 15-minute run is a great way to keep training as a habit when you can't fit in a longer session.”
